Pediatric Eye Exams

Did you know 80% of learning takes place through the visual system? While vision screenings may occur at the pediatrician’s office or at school, there is no substitute for a comprehensive eye examination. Amblyopia(also known as lazy eye) is a pediatric eye condition which may lead to permanent vision loss if not treated. Amblyopia is estimated to affect 2-4% of the population and may develop even if both the child’s eyes are straight. At Germantown Vision Care Center, we see children ages 3 and up.

If you notice your child is having trouble with their vision, schedule an appointment with Germantown Vision Care Center so the doctor can address the issue and get them back on track. As with most conditions, early detection is key!

Pay attention to these five symptoms as they can be related to vision problems for children:

1. Rubbing the eyes
2. Excessive blinking
3. Frequent squinting
4. Regular headaches
5. Shutting one eye to focus

Even if eye problems do not run in the family and your child hasn’t displayed any of the symptoms above, they should visit the optometrist every year after the age of 3 to ensure their eyes are in good health. Germantown Vision Care Center can address any questions you have regarding your child’s first visit to the eye doctor before the appointment so they know exactly what to expect!
